Coal Creek Educational Reading ResourcesPlease scroll down for a list of all readings resourcesIntroductionThe purpose of these readings is to provide teachers and students with text materials which will enrich any visit to Coal Creek Village. They should be used in conjunction with the Preparatory or Follow Up Activities provided by Coal Creek Education Services. The texts come from actual writings of the time giving students an authentic experience. Each section is introduced with information from The Early History of South Gippsland: A Pictorial History by John Bradshaw. It is a very valuable resource and available from Coal Creek Village. The Three Level Guide (developed by Rowe from Edwards and Hill, 1985) is used as an effective Middle Years literacy strategy which nudges thinking and comprehension to higher levels and builds the quality of individual and group responses. The texts cover a range of CSF levels just as students do in the Middle Years but each text challenges students by coming from a different, perhaps unfamiliar, “culture” which uses language differently and by challenging their interpretation of the texts. The texts and exercises draw implicitly on their understanding of the construction of texts and of text types. They are best suited for use in a group setting because each member can contribute to the range of understandings required to read and interpret the text.ScopePlease click on the topic link to download all readings and questions in that specific area.
