About Coal Creek Heritage Village

Coal Creek Heritage Village is built on the site of an original black coal mine in Korumburra, South Gippsland.  Depicting life in a Coal Mining Town between the 1870s - 1920s, Coal Creek Heritage Village has grown in size since its humble beginnings, to now occupy over 30 acres of bushland, with over 60 exhibits.  A small locomotive meanders through the tranquil bushland, as a dedication to the importance of the South Gippsland Railway in pioneering the region.

What our Education Program has to offer you

Coal Creek has a wide range of educational materials to suit your year level and curriculum focus.  Following your visit to Coal Creek, your students will better understand the industrial, social, cultural and heritage values of pioneering early rural Australia.

Visits can be as structured or as flexible as you like.  The activities you participate in are chosen by you and your colleagues, to link in with your unit of work.
Students can be taken on a guided tour, or move around the village themselves, completing different activities and trails along the way.  The original Jeetho School House has been wonderfully restored, where students can experience school in the past, with the aid of one of our experienced school teachers.  Early architecture is represented in magnificent form.  From log cabins, to slab cottages, to wattle and daub huts and commercial buildings, all wonderfully restored, students can experience how buildings have changed over time.  Coal Creek is also the perfect setting for an end of year excursion, with extensive grass areas, perfect for a picnic during those warm Summer months.  Visits can be as educational based as you please!
